Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) – CSA Z809:2002 Certification
Canadian Standards Association defines Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) as:
“Management to maintain and enhance the long-term health of forest ecosystems, while providing ecological, economical, social, and cultural opportunities for the benefit of present and future generations”

What is Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Certification?
• In order to certify that the forests we operate in are being managed on a sustainable basis, a SFM plan must be prepared based on standards developed by a recognized certification organization.
• Winton Global developed a Sustainable Forest Management Plan (SFM Plan) for the Prince George Forest District in British Columbia, Canada.
• Winton Global chose to have their SFM Plans certified by CSA.
What must an SFM Plan Do?
• The plan must identify locally important values, objectives, indicators and targets.
• The plan must provide details on how to measure our performance over time.
What does CSA Require for SFM ?
• Commitment (Environmental and SFM Policy).
• Public Advisory Group (participated in choosing performance indicators).
• Management System (EMS and SFM Plans).
• Continuous improvement.
Certification Details:
• Winton Global was registered to CSA Z809:2002 on November 18, 2005 (#012754)
Scope of Registration:
• The sustainable forest management system as it applies to the forest management activities of Winton Global Lumber Ltd. on their Defined Forest Area (FL A18171) within the Prince George Forest District. Forest management activities include planning, development, harvesting, transportation and renewal activities.
