Build Your Home
Build It Yourself
Panelized home packages fit perfectly in this do-it-yourself age; it's called sweat-equity. If you plan to build your own prefabricated home, be sure that you understand the flow for constructing your prefab home package and only use proven, reliable subcontractors.
When you build, you'll want to take full advantage of our Construction Manual. Of course, you'll have your blueprints and a Master Plan, which shows the overall layouts, but the Construction Manual will provide you with specific information on putting your panelized pieces together. If you run into any issues with your build, our Personal Project Coordinators are always a phone call away.
You will also want to take a look below at our Floor-to-Trusses Guide, which will give you an idea of how a panelized home should go together. Included are a few details from both the master plan and the Construction Manual, so you'll have an idea of how this guide will look when it comes time to build your package.
Floor-to-Trusses Guide
Foundation
While Winton Global Homes does not build or install your foundation, your panelized home will be designed with your choice of foundation in mind. Whether you choose to put your new house or cottage on a slab, crawlspace, concrete basement, wood basement or insulating concrete forms, the Construction Manualwill include instructions on how your floor system will work with your choice of foundation.
Floor System
When you've finished your foundation, it's time to install your floor system. The pieces to your floor system are factory-cut and labelled according to your plan. You will need to fit each beam and floor piece in place according to your Master Plan. You'll also need to layout the plywood in accordance with the drawings.
Decks
Just like your floor system, your Master Plan includes detailed beam and joist layouts for your deck. Your Construction Manual will also give you a good idea of how the beams and joists will fit in place on top of your foundation.
Wall Panels
Next in line to install are your factory-framed wall panels. Like the floor system, each panel is labelled in accordance with the Master Plan. Follow the plan and simply tilt your walls up in place. If you have a two storey build, your plan will include a layout for the second level floor and wall system. Your Construction Manual will show how each piece should be nailed together and braced.
Trusses
After the walls are up, your trusses will need to be individually set in place according to your Master Plan. Your plan will include a layout and spacing for each truss or beam component.
Roofing
Whether your you've chosen one of our shingle or metal options, the next step in building your home will be to install your roofing system. Your Master Plan will include layout instructions for your roof sheathing, which is the first thing you will need to put on your roof. After this is installed, you will need to affix your roofing underlay and your roofing materials. The Construction Manual includes details on how to install your specific roofing system.
Windows and Doors
Your house is standing! Now you will want to install the windows and doors. Whether you've chosen sliders or energy efficient casements or triple glazed windows, your Construction Manual will provide the product-specific information needed to properly install your windows and doors.
Siding and Trims
When you have your windows in place, the last thing you will need to do to complete your lock-up package is install your siding and trims. Like your windows, whether you've chosen vinyl or the Winton Standard, Hardie-plank, your Master Plan and Construction Manual will have product specific information on applying your siding.
Congratulations! Your home is standing and secure. You are now ready to bring in your subcontractors to help you finish your home.
